Mekelle University’s Institute of Gender Studies, in collaboration with the Bureau of Women and Social Affairs (BoWA), successfully organized a national workshop today focused on a contextual needs assessment of gender machineries in Tigray.
Held at the main campus of Mekelle University, the event brought together key stakeholders from diverse sectors to review existing gender structures, identify critical gaps, and explore practical solutions to strengthen regional institutions.
Opening Remarks: Mrs. Birhan Habtie, Director of the Institute of Gender Studies at Mekelle University, welcomed participants and stressed the vital need for a context-driven assessment to drive meaningful progress toward gender equality.
Breakout Discussions: Participants engaged in group discussions to exchange strategies, experiences, and institutional insights.
Key Representatives: Attendees included prominent figures such as Mrs. Shewit Adisu, Head of BoWA, and Mr. Tesfu Alemu from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The outcomes and recommendations from this workshop will lay the groundwork for future actions aimed at empowering gender-related institutions and advancing gender equity across the region.
