Mekelle University conducted OBE and Research University Curriculum Reform Workshop
Mekelle University (MU) has wrapped up a two-day Training and Consultative Workshop focused on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the Research Universities (RU) Curriculum Framework. The event took place on January 9–10, 2026, at the university's main campus.
The workshop was officially opened by Dr. Abdelkader Kedir, Vice President for Academic at Mekelle University. In his opening speech address, the strategic importance of aligning MU’s academic programs with national higher education reforms. He added the university's commitment to transitioning into a research-oriented institution, advocating for learner-centered, competency-based, and evidence-driven curriculum practices that enhance graduate employability, integrate research, and ensure societal relevance.




The program brought together vice deans, heads of quality assurance, and experienced staff members from various departments across the university.
Participants engaged in intensive hands-on sessions that focused on aligning OBE curricula, defining program learning outcomes, course mapping, and developing prototypes for the Research University curriculum.

Senior experts, including Dr. Dinku Seyoum Zeleke from Addis Ababa Science and Technology University and Dr. Endale Teju Bedada from Haramaya University, facilitated the professional training sessions and, they also provided participants with practical tools for curriculum review, redesign, and prototype development in accordance with national standards.
during the closing remarks, Dr. Abderkadir Kedir reaffirmed Mekelle University’s commitment to fully institutionalizing OBE (Outcome-Based Education) and implementing the Research University Curriculum Framework across all academic programs. He urged participants to promptly initiate the implementation of the agreed action plans and to strengthen continuous monitoring and quality assurance mechanisms.
