Empowering the Next Generation: The ACCESS Program at Mekelle University
Mekelle University is proud to continue hosting the English Access Microscholarship Program, a U.S. Department of State–funded initiative designed to transform the lives of bright, underserved students in our community.
Program Highlights:

The Cohort: 36 talented students (18 girls & 18 boys) selected from local public schools.
The Training: A two-year intensive program (2024–2026) totaling 720 hours of instruction.
Beyond Language: Students gain critical skills in leadership, civic awareness, and exposure to U.S. culture and democratic values.
Success Milestone: Having successfully completed the first 90 hours of instruction, the program has now entered its second phase of funding. This initiative, managed by the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, aims to boost students’ self-confidence, employability, and future exchange opportunities.
Through the English Language Improvement Center (ELIC), Mekelle University remains committed to educational inclusion and social responsibility.
