Currently, Mekelle University has received grant funding from the U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, to implement a two-year English Access Scholarship Program. The program is set to begin on November 22, 2024, and conclude on November 4, 2026, benefiting 36 students.
Dr. Abdelkader Keder, the Vice President for Academic Affairs at MU, officially opened the ceremony and addressed all participants, emphasizing the program's goals and the advantages that students would gain from it. He noted that the program aims to enhance students' English language knowledge and skills, which are essential for job searching, pursuing university studies, and taking exams for various scholarships. Furthermore, the program will engage students in community activities and contribute to their personal development.
Dr. Gena, the RELO Officer, expressed her pleasure at the program's launch at MU. She congratulated all the students selected for the two-year Access Program and provided a briefing about it. Addressing the Access students, she mentioned that the program aims to equip them with English language skills relevant to the current job market. She also highlighted that, in addition to learning English, participants would be required to engage in community development activities.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Abdelkader Keder and Dr. Gena handed over certificates of award to the 36 students, and all participants were photographed.
The parents of the Access students were invited to share their thoughts about the program. They expressed their delight and gratitude to the U.S. Embassy for providing their children with such an opportunity.
