A Guest Professor from IHE Delft and TU Delft held Seminar at Mekelle University
Pieter van der Zaag, a prominent Professor of Water Resources Management at IHE Delft and TU Delft (The Netherlands), gave seminar on "Sand Rivers: Lifelines for Resilient Livelihoods" at Mekelle University today 31 August 2024. The presentation focuses on the potentials of nature based shallow alluvial aquifer sand rivers to improve the livelihoods and resilience of the most vulnerable farming communities in arid and semi-arid rural areas of Sub-Saharan Africa.
The participants include top management members, senior researchers, junior researchers, and MSc and PhD students from Mekelle University and representatives of local and international partners including Tigray Bureau of Water and Energy (BoWE); Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BoANR); Tigray Agriculture Research Institute (TARI); Relief Society of Tigray (REST); Tigray Water Works Study, Design and Supervision Enterprise (TWWSDSE); and Pastoral and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa (PENHA).
The presentation was followed by questions, reflections, experience sharing and potentials future collaborations.
