EMWA Veteran Journalists Hold seminar at MU.

Ethiopian Media Women's Association (EMWA) veteran journalists, in collaboration with the department of journalism & communication, held seminar at Adihaki Campus, Mekelle University on Nov., 25/2025.

The seminar aimed at capacity building of female students, more specifically females on the areas of journalism & communication.
Gebreselassie Kahsay,Head of department of Journalism & Communication, in his opening speech, warmly welcomed and extended his heartfelt gratitude to the veteran journalists for the initiative they took. On the occasion, the department Head pointed out that such seminars have invaluable contributions as our veteran university, MU, has been relentlessly doing on producing quality citizens for the last three plus decades.
Veteran Journalists & members of the EMWA shared their media experience with Journalism & Communication students.

Selamawit Firdisa, a media expert said that this vibrant & resilient Association aims at capacity building of female students, conducting research on women, gender & Journalism. She added that in Cooperation with different stakeholders it works on sensitization . "To increase the visibility, we publish the profile of exemplary women", said Selamawit.
Frewoini Gebrehiwot, a veteran journalist who worked on the area for the last three decades said there are challlenges if you are not pursuing the truth. Frewoini adds as a journalist you are expected to be society oriented.
Another veteran journalist and a member of EMWA, Lemlem Hailemichael, said journalism is not led by emotion. "It's a healing, for you as a journalist, and for a society you struggle for when use it by wisdom," Lemlem added.
Hari Melis, a recent graduate from Jimma University,Department of Journalism & communication, said that she learned a lot from EMWA & recommended the Media students to join the association to protect their rights and responsibilities.

In the seminar, the journalism & communication female students, requested EMWA for such seminars in the months to come, and EMWA promised to do so.
