Overview
This MU-HU-NMBU-ICP-V Program Grant aims to support 10 PhD research projects conducted by staff from sister institutions enrolled at MU, focusing on the food system thematic area as their PhD dissertation project.
Scope
The focus area of the proposal must be aligned with the themes and sub-themes of the MU-HU-NMBU-ICP-V program (refer to the attached document for the theme and sub-themes of the program).
Eligibility
- Applicants must be staff of sister institutions/universities enrolled at MU.
- PhD students should provide a support letter from their employer’s institution.
- The PhD student applicants should be in their 2nd year and above (at research work stage)
- The PhD students must submit proof of their class year from the registrar and proof of their proposal approval from their college/institute.
- All members of the team must have ORCID iD and MU institutional email; as well as the MU staff should have MU researcher Profile.
- The PhD research proposal must be within the scope of the food systems thematic area.
- Should present a clear plan to publish research results in peer-reviewed journals on an annual basis.
- Indicate other research result dissemination mechanisms (other than publication, optional).
- PhD students who are beginning their PhD research this year and have not yet selected their study sites must conduct their research in one of the two ICP-V “LIVING LABs”, namely the “Des’a-HaikMes’hal-Giba catchment” and the “Guguf-Tsige’a catchment in Raya-Azebo”.
- Fulfill all other ICP-V project evaluation criteria
Proposal Requirements
- Use the attached MU research proposal and CV format
- For each research member, provide the pertinent supporting letters listed at the bottom of the MU CV format (Annex A).
- Refer to the evaluation instrument attached here.
Budget
- Budget is ETB 112,000 (includes PhD student dissertation grant and advisor and co-advisor’s payment).
Submission Guidelines
- Proposals and supporting documents must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word and PDF format.

Evaluation Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on the criteria and following all the stages stipulated in the attached evaluation instrument.
