A Delegation from Kansas State University Visits Mekelle University.
A delegation from Kansas State University visited Mekelle University as part of the "Capacity Building of Ethiopian Agricultural Universities" Project, which is funded by USAID under the Feed the Future Initiative of the U.S. Government. The delegation included Prof. Dr. Vara Prasad, Director of the Sustainable Intensification Lab and University Distinguished Professor in Crop Ecology, along with Dr. Araya Alemie. During the visit, they engaged in discussions with the top management and researchers at Mekelle University.
The project, led by the Feed the Future Sustainable Intensification Lab of Kansas State University, aims to: (a) Establish virtual rooms and computer lab facilities, (b) Set up laboratory facilities, (c) Enhance field research, and (d) Build and strengthen the capacity of agricultural colleges in six Ethiopian universities: Mekelle, Raya, Jimma, Arba Minch, Bahir Dar, and Jigjiga Universities. Representatives from the Ethiopian consortium universities also accompanied the Kansas State University delegation to Mekelle University.
Dr. Eyasu Yazew, Vice President for Research and Community Engagement at Mekelle University, warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude to KSU and USAID for their financial and technical support in strengthening the agricultural colleges of the six Ethiopian Universities. He also acknowledged the dedication, teamwork, and synergy among the members of the Ethiopian consortium.
The delegation was briefed on the progress and outcomes of the project at Mekelle University, leading to constructive discussions. Consortium members exchanged experiences, shared insights, and deliberated on future steps to further enhance and expand their collaboration.
